2010 Senate Races Part II

And now, I will discuss the Republican side of the 2010 Senate elections and Kos’s stance on them..

Arizona–Kos says McCain can’t beat Napalotino, this may be true but right now the polling he’s using is two years out….and well this seat has been held by a republican since 1968–that might not be relevant as Bernie Sander’s Seat had elected only republicans since 1876–but it will also depend on whether or not McCain resigns, and if so who replaces him.

Alabama
Alright, it seems like part of Kos’s thing is there will be a top tier candidate running against a 76 year old republican in the US Senate….two things first off if just being old hurt you Frank Lautenberg would be crushed this year, secondly this is Alabama, and thirdly Shelby has held this seat since 1976…..you’re going to have to get a pretty big wave to boot him out.

Florida–There’s no recent polling on freshman incumbent Mel Martinez, but when SUSA was polling 50 states in 2007, Martinez consistently polled among the worst senators in the nation….by then that will be a three year old poll, and he seems to have fun with his harsh on cuba stance…which also seems to be popular, we’ll see but I wouldn’t get cocky.

Iowa –Chuck Grassley isn’t leaving that seat unless he dies…and unless he dies the GOP will hold it…end of story..and he’s still raising money so it’s unlikely he’ll just decide to quit…thuogh maybe he wants to sit on his porch and watch his hounds–does he have hounds? He just seems like a guy who would

Kansas
Incumbent Sam Brownback has already announced his retirement. If popular Gov. Kathleen Sebelius isn’t Obama’s vice president,  expect her to be a top-tier challenger for this open seat….if she wants to be a senator.  And this scenario is 100% dependent on the Kansas Republican Party continuing it’s constant internal bickering between the moderate and conservative factions.

KentuckyKos is probably right this guy is stupid, and senile, and barely won in 2004–when Bush womped Kerry in his state, he’s going down–additionally, he got “burnt” by the nearly senile Robert Byrd….the country’s better off without this “great baseball man.”

Louisiana–my only thought on this race is that, well it’s Louisiana i don’t know anyone from the state who disapproves of prostitution, additionally, they can’t afford to kick this guy out and replace him with a first termer…and finally, the state lost a huge portion of its black population after Katrina….so definitely not a lock

Missouri–this guy has won 8 state wide elections going back to the early 70s…..He’s ranking member on the Small Business Committee….he’s not going down

New Hampshire–Eh…we’ll see Sunnunu’s facing a popular former governor and it seems like that fights been much more of a brawl than anyone thought so I’m hesitant to say that the “Live free or Die” state will become a bastion of Democratic politics akin to Massachusetts

North Carolina –The Closest things the democrats have to a serious candidate is Heath Schuyler, as Easley–the Pro-life democrat–doesn’t want the seat….admittedly Shuyler’s not a bad candidate, but we’ll see

Ohio –I’m a Clevelander…go to Cleveland, ask people what they think of Voinovich…we love him we still think of him as the mayor who brought back good times in the ’80s…he’ll run numbers in the high 40s in Cuyahoga County…no democrat can win without a blow-out in Cuyahoga, so unless Mike White decides to run Voinovich will win…and Mayor White would probably get crushed in down-state

Oklahoma–Tom Coburn won’t lose…they love him for his insanity in Oklahoma….and plenty of us love him in the rest of the country

Pennsylvania –again I’m just saying old age doesn’t mean your likely to lose, and if Spector could win in 2004, with Kerry fighting tooth and nail for Pennsylvania, and after a brutal 50.1-49.9 Republican Primary against Toomey, well….he’ll be hard to beat in 2010–admittedly if he dies than it’s probably a democratic seat
